The Board of Canine Behaviorists is governed by a board composed of Board Certified Canine Behaviorists (B.C.C.B.) and licensed veterinary professionals. The Board is responsible for setting certification standards, overseeing the assessment process, and reviewing certification decisions.

Examination Assessment

The Board maintains a structured assessment process appropriate to each level of certification.

Canine Behavior Associate (CBA) The CBA examination is fully multiple-choice and is scored automatically, ensuring consistent, objective results for every candidate.

Canine Behavior Consultant (CBC) and Senior Canine Behavior Consultant (SCBC) Written components of these examinations are assessed under blind grading — assessors evaluate candidate work without access to the candidate's identity. All assessors hold SCBC certification or higher.

Board Certified Canine Behaviorist (B.C.C.B.) The Professional Case Portfolio and Original Professional Thesis are assessed under blind grading by assessors holding B.C.C.B. certification, together with licensed veterinary professionals.

Across every level, assessors hold a certification rank higher than the credential they are assessing.

Standards Review

The Board reviews its certification requirements, examination blueprints, and Code of Ethics on an annual basis to ensure they remain aligned with current canine behavior science and professional best practice.
